Aruba, Jamaica, oooh I wanna take ya to a tropical getaway that will have you saying, “Beach please!” Aruba is one happy island in the Caribbean Sea, located north of Venezuela. Typically this is a bustling tourist destination with hotels hosting day parties that overlook a busy port of cruise ships and yachts (Reminder to self: meet friends with yachts). However, being 2020, the best reason to visit Aruba is for its beautiful beaches, away from other people.
Here are four beaches you’ll shore-ly want to make it to:
Flamingo Beach
This beach is actually on a small private island that is owned by the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino. To gain access to it, you can either stay as a guest at the hotel, or buy a day pass for $125 per person, which also gets you one free cocktail (try the Piña Colada) and a free meal from one of the grills on the island. The tickets go on sale at 7:00 a.m. the day before, and they are known to sell out — so have those fingers and your wifi ready!
To get there you’ll take a quick water taxi departing from the port behind Lucy’s Bar. When you arrive on the island you can turn right for Flamingo Beach, the adults-only side — or left for Iguana Beach, the family side. You can use U.S. quarters to buy food to feed the flamingos and get the pictures of your Instagram dreams. The best time to do this is early in the morning before the flamingos are full and lazy– which I get, because like, same.
Eagle Beach
Rated the third best beach in the world by Trip Advisor in 2017, Eagle Beach is a sight for *soar* eyes 🦅. It’s open to the public with a huge stretch of white sand and palapas you can claim as yours for the day. I suggest packing your own lunch and drinks, and spending at least half a day lounging here. The water is the perfect temperature for wading and wave hopping (no rocks, seaweed, or invisible ocean creatures at your feet — a criteria for me), or if you’re adventurous you can rent a jet ski and get your Jay-Z on.
Baby Beach
Named for its shallow knee-deep water (it’s actually a man-made lagoon), this beach is smaller than Eagle Beach, but still has plenty of room for hanging out safely at a distance from other beach-goers. It’s located in San Nicolas, which is a bit of a trek from downtown Aruba where you will likely be staying, but it is well worth the drive. You can grab drinks and food at Big Mama Grill or Baby Beach Snack, and there are lockers and restrooms you can pay to use. If you’re looking to snorkel this is a great place to spot fish and even sea turtles! (No promises on whether or not there are 🎵 baby sharks 🎵.)
Boca Ketu
Admittedly I did not not make it to Boca Ketu, but it was high on the list, and some feel that it’s the most beautiful beach in Aruba. To get to this cove you’ll enter Arikok National Park, then you’ll need to rent an ATV or take a short hike. The payoff? Stunning views and a pretty private, secluded experience.
Have you been to Aruba? Which area was your favorite? Out of all of the beaches we went to, I’d say Flamingo and Baby Beach are tide.
